A cafe in the valley, with a water stream and suspension bridge. A nice place to visit and chill.

The place only has a handful of visitors on weekdays. We opt for VIP Zone (300B) which is a huge private semi outdoor bath facing the paddy field. The room is a bit rundown, but we still find it comfortable and enjoyable. There are 70B and 100B private room options, or 50B for the public pool. 10B for towel rental. Or you can boil your own hot spring eggs for 40B. Most of the eateries are not open on weekdays.

This place looks nice and instagrammable. Deep down in a valley, next to a stream. The view is average, but it does have a nature feel to it. The room is pretty small, and there are a lot of insect at night.

The best place to have coffee in Chiang Mai: good taste, good price and beautiful place (not too fancy, just nice). Right at the center of old city, few steps away from Wat Phra Singh.

The best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai? Perhaps. Spicy with some really flavourful broth, love it.

A simple waterfall. There is nothing much at the top.

A small village in a valley, which has become quite a popular tourist destination. The village centre has a vibrant street food scene, with a few restaurants and cafes. There is a popular waterfall nearby, and a few hilltop cafes. I would recommend staying a night.

After visiting the waterfall, chill at this cafe to enjoy the view of Mae Kampong from above.

A Japanese wooden-themed boutique homestay, within walking distance to Mae Kam Pong village centre yet able to enjoy serenity within nature. It is rare to find an owner run nature villa with great hospitality and great care to detail. Our room has a Japanese wooden bathtub with a forest view (with bubble salt), a smart tv for music and Netflix, a retro gaming console, cool family games, plenty of snacks and soft drinks. Besides Doraemon at the entrance, the room is filled with One Piece figurines and posters. Morning breakfast at the garden is another plus, the perfect setup with 3 varieties of dishes. Love the morning ambience. Don't forget the cute little house dog, Ali. The owner can bring you on a tour around the village with his cool looking vehicle. It is really a very comfortable and serene stay, plenty to enjoy or just to relax. One of our favorite accommodations in Thailand for the past 2 weeks.

Love this traditional version of Mookata, is like pork steamboat with herbal soup. Recommend by our host.

Signature Passion Fruit cake slightly too sweet, but still moise. The Bruschetta set is surprisingly nice. Coffee is okay.

Pretty good roast chicken. Crispy skin and flavourful. To make good roast chicken you need the correct size, should be too big or too small. Papaya salad is nice too. Simple, delicious and affordable.

One of the must visit temple in Chiang Mai. It is beautiful, with a few buildings on a large compound. Each temple building has its own charm. You can visit at night as well, with a totally different vibe.

An interesting MARS themed cafe, and it is indeed quite unique and beautiful. The dirty latte is nice too, together with the thick chocolate flavor brownie.

Extensive menu, more expensive, nice environment plus a koi pond with some giant koi. The food looks very enticing, but taste wise is between average or slightly above average. So just enjoy the vibe and chill.

A beautiful temple, with a visit if you are nearby. I believe it is open for night visits as well.

This road side stall is super popular, have to take a number and wait for our turn (about 20 minutes). It is fried noodles with seafood/pork and vegetables, which is pretty delicious. I am not sure if it is worth the long wait time though.

Chiang Mai night market are usually quite long and super crowded, so it could be quiet tiring. Do visit if you fancy street food or shopping. At the western end is a beautiful golden temple which still open at night.

Beautiful design, good coffee, reasonable price.

A clothing and handmade items market, with a pretty good street food market as well. The area is quite big, with many clean toilets and quite a few seating areas. Seems like it has additional things on weekends, though I am not quite sure what.

The crispy roast pork belly is really good: crispy skin, tender meat, good proportion of fat. First we ordered roast pork with rice, and roast chicken. Roast Chicken is not as good, so we decide to top up another plate of Roast Pork. Roast Pork with rice do comes with egg and BBQ sauce.

Clean, quite and comfortable. Comfortable bed and pillow. Free snacks available. The only complain is the AC blow on your face, so might need to adjust that before sleep.

Also known as the Saturday night market, probably one of the most crowded places in Chiang Mai with a lot of stalls and many eateries as well. I got tired after walking half of it. I feel that Saturday and Sunday night markets are pretty much the same, so just visiting one of them will do.

A simple local Chinese coffee shop to experience simple coffee and toast.

We initially thought this might be a fancy dim sum place with no substance, but we were proven wrong. The dim sum is really satisfying and delicious. Every dish is delicate and good quality. 4 dim sum and tea cost 640B.

A strange but nice dessert: sweet cold noodle. Refreshing and interesting try.

It like the quaint and quiet part of Chinatown, less crowd but still interesting enough.

Local curry puff in an alley. Taste wise is okay, as they offer many flavors. The skin is probably not soft enough. They have all kind of snacks besides curry puff.

Simple and nice local bakery.

Order the toast with sausages: simple, cheap and nice.

A nice bowl of egg noodle herbal soup with duck. Nice broth.

The coffee shop is on top of some old machinery storage warehouse. This place is fairly crowded and noisy. They have some specialty coffee, but we just order orange coffee with cake. It is an okay place, but not really comfortable.

Taking the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. If you want First class, you need to book online 30 days ahead, and it sell out really fast. First class have a special lounge with free mineral water. You can buy food to take on the train, or order dinner on the train. This first class train even have a bathroom.

Chinatown is actually quite a huge area, probably extending beyond Yaowarat Road. I prefer Chinatown in the daytime, as are plenty of famous Chinese cuisine and Michelin Bib restaurants. There are also all kinds of markets and temples. Chinatown at night is pretty much concentrated along Yaowarat Road with its sidewalk food vendors starting their business. Most people dine here for the atmosphere.

Nice bowl of flavourful and springy egg noodle (pork). Affordable and satisfying street food.

The best oyster omelette I have tasted: very crispy, less oily, fresh juicy oyster, and heavenly delicious. 200B for medium size. Feels like I need to return for more next time.

Love the liveliness of street vendors.

It is a modern soybean dessert shop, perfect for a hot day. They offer a variety of flavours, but taste wise seems pretty average.

Warm and flavourful broth with roll rice noodles. It is simple, nice and satisfying. This place is fairly crowded due to its location, but the queue is systematic and fast.

Beautiful temple with lots of yellow lantern.

Love this street side curry rice. They have about 10 different varieties with many more side dishes. If you plan to dine in, sit down on a chair (no table) and wait for the owner to take order from you. Love the vibe, and love the flavourful good.

This mall is really really really huge. There is an outdoor park with a harbor. The is an indoor street food market, where you can sample all the street food variety in Thailand. The food market is especially crowded. And many floors of shopping and restaurant. Be prepared to spend at least half a day here.

We tried this many years ago, today we return for another round of tasting. We order something more premium, Roe Crab (600B). The small crab is indeed filled with eggs, probably too much given the size. The glass noodles with the special sauce is really too tasty, probably better tasting than the crab. The flavor a bit too strong, maybe too much soy sauce. The crab is medium size, not too much meat, but fresh and nice.

It is a Pad Thai with many fancy ingredients. The crackers and dry cuttlefish are nice additions, but I wish the noodles are softer and warmer.

Too sweet, too messy with average bread. The hype is probably due to the location and the bun does seems interesting.

Visit the morning market to sample some local food.

A clean and comfortable hotel. The location is very near to Chinatown.

This is a popular spot to view the skyline of Bangkok, especially during sunset. Sadly it was raining with expected thunderstorm, so have to wait 2h before we could go up. The good thing is there is less crowd, but we miss the sunset and cannot walk on the glass roof. Night view is beautiful, but I guess daytime photography would be clearer. No bags on the rooftop, so need to keep it in a locker. No selfie stick too. There is nothing much to do unless you plan to chill at the bar. I think the entrance fee is 890B (might varies), and you need to book ahead if you want the sunset slot.

Love the porridge here, recommended. Simple, silky, tasty and a bit burnt (in a good way, maybe it is the bottom portion). The meatball is good. Lady boss is friendly.

Decent fishball noodle still open for supper.

Rent a costume before touring the ancient city of Ayutthaya. Reasonably priced with many color and style to choose from.

The ruins of an ancient Buddhist temple is pretty impressive, especially on a good weather day. You can rent ancient Thai costumes and take some really nice photos here.

A huge stone reclining Buddha is still very much intact and charming, with a huge head, huge feat and long body. Entrance is free.

This huge bronze Buddha is the restoration of the original Phra Mongkon Bopit sculpted in 1538, as tall as 12.5 meters.

The holiest temple of old Ayutthaya, destroyed by Burmese in 1767. The main attractions are the Stupa/Chedi (where kings are buried) and remains of the old holy city.

Affordable and delicious boat noodle.

This place have many Prangs and Buddha statues (many are headless due to war with Burmese). The most iconic tourist attraction is the Buddha head wrapped by a Banyan tree.

A special local dessert: Roti Sai Mai (colourful candy floss wrapped with rice flour skin). First time trying it and love it. It is a very interesting kind of dessert.

Decent food and dessert by the Riverside.

Go cycling, enjoy boating or photography at the coconut plantation.

This is more than just a cafe, it is a huge compound filled with lake, zoo, restaurant and cafe. You can cycle or go boating for free. The like it's filled with lotus flower, gorgeous for photography. Have dessert and coffee at the cafe. Explore the zoo with rabbits, goats, chickens, ducks and deers. Spend at least half a day at this huge playground. There should be more entertainment and food options on weekends.

A wooden homestay at the outskirt of Ayutthaya. Comfortable stay with the friendly host. The guesthouse is well decorated, facing the paddy field (sadly they harvest it the week before our arrival). There is a platform in front of the house, where you can chill or enjoy the swing. Free bicycles are available too.

Delicious seafood, especially the big head river prawns. Pick super large prawns if you want to enjoy the tomalley, else a medium ones are better if you want to enjoy the meat. Seafood hotpot is nice too. After the meal, drop by their ice cream fridge as they have some interesting Thai flavoured ice cream.

This is a small floating market in the outskirt, selling fresh produce and some food. Food is quite delicious and cheap. You can also have a boat ride, either motorboat or a manual rowing one (we go for the manual one, and the scenery is very nice).

The famous railroad market. Check the train schedule, and wait for the train to pass by and shopper retract their canopy. It is magical because everyone is excited over it: tourists on the ground, tourists on the train and the cafe operators.

A forest/garden theme cafe with a King Kong. Food and drink is okay. It is a comfortable cafe with quite a few corners to chill and for photography.

This is a mini resort, surrounded by coconut plantation. The room is small, but affordable price and still comfortable. At night the staff will bring you to watch firefly, which is quite magical. You can take their bicycles to cycle to free, but probably too many dogs at the nearby plantations.

Nice place to have good seafood at reasonable price around this area. Free watermelon after meal.
